what's a blog?

A student of mine showed me the new book he's reading, "How to win friends..." I forgot what the exact title is. Shows my disinterest. I half cut the book and a line says, "why read a book on how to win friends?"  Right. Why read a book, why not go directly at meeting and winning friends?  I didn't bother reading the rest of the paragraph. Just ain't for me.

That's what I also said when people started blogging. My girlfriend keeps one. And contrary to what I sweared to her before, I do follow her anthology of raves and rants.  I learn a lot from her entries--how she feels, what she wants, what she cannot say.  I also learn new words and new sentence construction combinations.

Why keep a blog? Why not do a more personal talk, a more open sharing of the self?

Last July 8, I popped the million dollar question to my queen.  “Queen”? No one would probably understand why I save her number in my phone under ".Queen"!  I do have a logical explanation for it but who needs it anyway?! Things such as that need no long discourse.  Some of the things we do need no over-analysis. We just do it because we want to.  And for the things we do but we don't want to caricature-ize, we leave it as is—raw, plain, crude.

That's why we blog. I blog. We want to throw our feelings, our thoughts out in the open.  Leave it there.  Just there.

Our blogs are the most we can say of our private worlds.  We want to share but really can't. Yet, still.
